Dino Dossier - Brontosaurus

Hi guys! As you all should know, the Platform Saddles are arriving soon, and I wanted to do something related to them, because I'm extremely excited for mobile dino bases!

So today, we will be kicking off a mini-series of Dino Dossier posts, called "Mobile Bases", consisting of the mighty, humongous creatures there will be Platform Saddles for! At the moment, we know of three, Brontosaurus, Elasmosaurus (Plesiosaur), and Quetzalcoatlus.

First off, we have Brontosaurus, which will be the go-to dino for mobile land bases! Brontosaurus is really huge, and with that kind of size, it is no surprise that it is formidable and intimidating, even if it may be slow and lumbering!

-------------------------

Basic Information
Common Name: Brontosaurus
Species: Brontosaurus lazarus
Time: Late Cretaceous
Diet: Herbivore
Temperament: Docile

Wild
Among the largest creatures I've seen on the island, Brontosaurus lazarus is larger than any sauropod I've read about. In fact, the dinosaur is so massive that it ignores most other creatures.

Domesticated
Because of how docile it is, Brontosaurus makes the ideal pack animal. Peaceful tribes use it to carry incredible quantities of resources, while warring tribes use it to mobilise their army. Unfortunately, its enormity means that most attempts to tame Brontosaurus can take longer than almost any other creature on the island.

Others
I've seen a pack of raptors tear apart smaller dinosaurs while Brontosaurus continues eating, seemingly oblivious to the hunting pack.

Some may think this is an Apatosaurus, Dreadnoughtus, Argetinosaurus, or other sauropod -- but this is a strange island, and I'm the one doing the research. I'm convinced that this genus is Brontosaurus, and no one can tell me otherwise. My study, my rules.

-------------------------

Behaviour [to be updated once AI is enhanced]
Brontosaurus is a colossal creature, and has to spend almost all of its time each day feeding, just to be able to sustain its huge body.

It is a docile, perhaps even oblivious, herbivore, and due to its size, most carnivores do not even attempt to make a meal out of it. Anything that is foolish enough to attack it, however, faces its wrath, its tail whips more than enough to devastate even the fiercest predators.

Resources From Harvesting
Anyone who manages to take down one of these beasts will be able to obtain a fittingly enormous amount of Raw Meat and Hide, as well as a generous amount of Raw Prime Meat.

Since taking one down would prove a real challenge, an Artifact, Sauropod Vertebra, can be found in its inventory, to prove one's worth as a hunter.

Taming Methods [to be updated once taming system is enhanced]
Currently, one would need to knock out a Brontosaurus to tame it. The most sensible way to do this would be to use Tranquilliser Arrows, since it would be hard to hit its head using a Slingshot.

Food [to be updated once taming system is enhanced]
Brontosaurus eats berries of all kinds, as it is a herbivore.

During taming, it would be more effective to feed Brontosaurus its preferred food, which are Mejoberries and Kibbles.

Utility
Brontosaurus is able to harvest Berries extremely efficiently, as its gathering range is huge, allowing it to collect an immense amount of Berries at once. It is one of the best, if not THE best, way to gather Berries.

Being able to knock down trees with a single swing of its tail, Brontosaurus is also able to obtain Thatch and Wood. Acting more like a Pick, it gathers a larger proportion of Thatch than Wood, and it does so very quickly.

In fact, it is more efficient to use a Brontosaurus to collect Thatch than to use Metal Tools, since it is not only faster, but has a higher yield as well. Using Metal Tools to collect Wood, on the other hand, collects a larger amount of it, but is slower nonetheless.

Brontosaurus does not harvest any resources from rocks or corpses.

With its high health and damage, players can choose to use Brontosaurus as a "tank" of sorts, to lead the charge when attacking, where it can act as cover for other units, as well as basically dealing with all sorts of land-bound threats.

Because of its immense size and strength, one obvious use for Brontosaurus would be as a pack animal, to carry extremely large amounts of supplies for transportation. Though it is slow, as one would expect of a creature this large, it can support an insane amount of weight for transportation, be it near or far.

And the most rewarding use for it, at least in my opinion, would be as a mobile land base! How cool is that?! It is known that at the very least, Beds and Turrets can be placed on the Platform Saddles, such as the one for the Brontosaurus, making it a basic base with automated defences to spawn at, and is a great way to spawn right back to the location that you may have just been killed at, if you were travelling with your Brontosaurus, for example.

-------------------------

And that concludes the first post in our "Mobile Bases" mini-series! I hope you enjoyed this post, and look out for the following two that will be coming over the next two days!

Thanks guys! :)
