Hey guys! This is our first Dino Dossier post, featuring my favourite dinosaur, Triceratops! Triceratops is a mighty beast, and though it might be a herbivore, it is not to be messed with!
Just to give an overview of how Dino Dossier posts will generally look like, there will be a Basic Information section containing the common name, species, time, diet and temperament of the creature. Following that are the chunks of information found around the dossier, listed under the Wild, Domesticated and Others sections.
Lastly, I will be writing about things related to the creature, such as what resources you can get from harvesting bodies of the creatures and what they could be used for when tamed. Once the taming system has been ironed out, I will be adding more information like taming methods for the creature, and what kind of food they eat, including what they prefer to eat.
-------------------------
Basic Information
Common Name: Triceratops
Species: Triceratops styrax
Time: Late Cretaceous
Diet: Herbivore
Temperament: Short-Tempered
Apparently a cross-breed of Triceratops and Styracosaurus, Triceratops styrax has both the characteristic three-horned face of Triceratops and the prominent horned-ridge of Styracosaurus.
Domesticated
A common mount for those that ride dinosaurs, Triceratops doubles as both pack animal and combat war horse.
Others
Normally a very docile grazing animal, Triceratops becomes extremely aggressive once angered. Triceratops will chase down would-be predators (and egg-stealers) with incredible prejudice.
I've seen Triceratops have an especially hostile reaction to the Tyrannosaurus on the island, with herds attacking en masse.
Triceratops' bony ridge is very effective as cover from frontal attack, and the creature's charge is incredibly dangerous.
-------------------------
Behaviour [to be updated once AI is enhanced]
Triceratops, in the wild, like many of the other herbivores on the island, will go about its business and can co-exist peacefully with players. However, if any creatures, humans included, were to provoke it through attack, it will chase the enemy down and attempt to kill them with their main attack, the frontal charge. It will eventually stop chasing you after a period of time if it loses track of you.
It should be noted that if one were to steal a Triceratops Egg, all nearby Triceratops will pursue the thief with extreme aggression. In this case, they will not be shaken off as easily.
Resources From Harvesting
Triceratops provides Raw Meat and Hide when harvested as well as Keratin from its horns, in smaller amounts.
It should be known that Carbonemys provides the same resources when harvested, and apart from being less dangerous than Triceratops, it is more abundant on the beaches. Players are recommended to attempt hunting a Triceratops only if they are sure of their capabilities to do so, otherwise Carbonemys would be the safer option, especially for lower-levels.
Taming Methods [to be updated once taming system is enhanced]
At the moment, Triceratops can only be tamed by knocking them unconscious. This can be done using Slingshots or Tranquilliser Arrows.
Attempting to knock one out by hitting its head using your fists would be rather futile as its attack, a frontal charge, is deadly and will knock you back.
Food [to be updated once taming system is enhanced]
Triceratops is a herbivore, and will eat berries.
When taming one, Triceratops prefers Mejoberries, as well as Kibbles.
Utility
Triceratops is very efficient at collecting Berries - not only is it faster to use a Triceratops as compared to doing so by hand, it also gets more Berries per bush.
While it is a quick way to gather some Thatch and Wood when hitting trees (it can hit multiple trees at once), it may not yield as much of them as compared to using Metal Tools. Additionally, Triceratops harvests more Thatch than Wood, acting similar to Picks.
Triceratops is not able to harvest resources from rocks or dead bodies.
As mentioned in the dossier, Triceratops can act as a pack animal, which is good for harvesting a significant amount of Berries, Thatch and Wood before being encumbered. One thing to look out for is that Triceratops can move rather slowly, especially when it is carrying heavy loads, so do not wander too far from base when harvesting resources.
Also, Triceratops can be ridden as a combat war horse. It can be used during attacks and raids, its knockback a good way to disrupt enemies, coupled with its moderate damage. Triceratops riders also have a sturdy mount to defend themselves with when threatened, like if any predators appear when harvesting resources.

That concludes our first Dino Dossier post! I hope this provides some insight into the amazing and versatile Triceratops! Tomorrow, Tyrannosaurus, my second favourite dinosaur, will be featured!
