Dino Dossier - Spinosaurus

Hey guys! This Dino Dossier post features Spinosaurus, the versatile apex predator! Spinosaurus is one of the largest predators on the island. In fact, it is similar in size to Tyrannosaurus!

The traits that Spinosaurus has, coupled with the fact that it is one of the top hunters on the island, make it more favourable over other creatures for certain purposes. For example, it is a mount which can easily traverse all terrains while being able to hold its own!

-------------------------

Basic Information
Common Name: Spinosaur
Species: Spinosaurus aquareliga
Time: Early-Late Cretaceous
Diet: Carnivore
Temperament: Territorial

Wild
Among the few carnivores on the island that can match Tyrannosaurus in size, Spinosaurus aquareliga does not quite match its ferocity.

Domesticated
Spinosaurus is an incredibly well-rounded apex carnivore. Faster than a Tyrannosaurus in water, able to travel on land unlike a Megalodon, and larger than a Carnotaurus, its all-terrain versatility may be unrivalled. For hunters who wish to have a well-rounded mount, Spinosaurus may be the ideal choice -- if they can acquire one.

Others
Spinosaurus' four legs and large sail make it fairly swift on land, and incredibly fast in water.

The one comforting fact about Spinosaurus is that it seems more at home near water than away from it. While the creature is insatiable near water, it tends to become more docile as it gets farther from it. On one occasion, I only escaped a Spinosaurus by getting far enough from its lake home to make it simply lose interest.

Behaviour [to be updated once AI is enhanced]
Spinosaurus is a fearsome sight, especially when it sometimes spawns in lakes nearer to the beaches, where beginners may encounter it. For beginners, there really is only one course of action: turn tail and run!

Spinosaurus is a territorial animal, and as stated in its dossier, it loses interest if its prey moves too far away from the water.

One thing that piqued my interest was that Spinosaurus seems to attempt to retreat when its health is low. I am not entirely sure, but it seems that other survivors have also observed this as well!

Resources From Harvesting
Spinosaurus, like many other dinosaurs, drops Raw Meat and Hide. Raw Prime Meat can also be obtained from it, in smaller amounts.

Taming Methods [to be updated once taming system is enhanced]

Spinosaurus can be tamed by knocking it unconscious. This can be achieved by using Tranquilliser Arrows, or perhaps even a Slingshot, for the more daring.

The feeding process itself takes a significant amount of time, possibly even more so than to tame a Tyrannosaurus, so players should take note of this before doing so.

Food [to be updated once taming system is enhanced]

Spinosaurus eats meat of both normal and prime quality, and in raw, cooked or jerky form.

While taming, it would prefer to consume Raw Prime Meat and Kibbles.

Utility
Spinosaurus' teeth and claws allow it to easily harvest Raw Meat, Raw Prime Meat and Hide from dead bodies. Spinosaurus can harvest these resources very quickly. It acts like a Pick, harvesting more Raw Meat than Hide. In fact, it is more effective at harvesting meat than Metal Tools, being able to harvest more of both Raw Meat and Raw Prime Meat than a Metal Pick.

Spinosaurus is also able to harvest both Keratin and Chitin quickly, albeit at a smaller amount than if one were to use Metal Tools.

This fearsome creature, however, does not have the means of harvesting any resources from bushes, trees or rocks.

Being an amphibious creature, Spinosaurus can spend very long amounts of time underwater, however, it still requires oxygen, and thus must surface occasionally. Knowing this, Spinosaurus makes an excellent mount for short dives, be it for harvesting of resources such as Oil and Silica Pearls, or even for hunting marine creatures!

Being one of the apex predators on the island, it is no surprise that Spinosaurus would be a good option for a survivor who requires a powerful mount. It is also fairly swift so it can get around rather quickly! What makes Spinosaurus especially special is its ability to traverse all-terrains with ease. Coupled with the fact that it is more than capable of taking on predators like Megalodon and Sarcosuchus, these traits make Spinosaurus the perfect mount for survivors who dwell near the beaches!

Its flexibility give it a variety of options in terms of attacking and raiding. For example, it can carry out aquatic attacks against partially or even fully underwater bases, or even ambush beach bases from the water! Its moderate health renders it not as capable as creatures like Tyrannosaurus or Brontosaurus to engage enemies head-on, however its speed and damage allow it to strike quickly and devastatingly in situations such as an ambush!

Spinosaurus is also able to hold a good amount of supplies before being encumbered, thus players are able to venture out with it alone for a quick expedition!

That's it for this Dino Dossier post, featuring all-rounded and versatile dinosaur, Spinosaurus! Hope you guys enjoyed it!
