Dino Dossier - Elasmosaurus

Hey there! Today's Dino Dossier post features the second creature in our Mobile Bases mini-series, Elasmosaurus! This imposing marine reptile is one of the larger animals that dwell in the deep, and is more commonly known as the Plesiosaur.

As fearsome as it looks, Elasmosaurus is actually not built for combat. Its large and powerful bodies make it more effective as a water transport, and with the Platform Saddle, it can even be used as a mobile water base!

-------------------------

Basic Information
Common Name: Plesiosaur
Species: Elasmosaurus remuspissa
Time: Late Cretaceous
Diet: Carnivore
Temperament: Docile

Wild
Elasmosaurus remuspissa has a strange role in the oceanic food chain. It almost exclusively hunts the smaller creatures in the waters, leaving most even moderately large creatures (such as humans) well alone. The sheer size of Elasmosaurus means that the quantity of creatures it must eat to sustain itself is nothing short of enormous.

Domesticated
Much like the Brontosaurus on land, Elasmosaurus is an excellent way to transport large quantities of goods over water. These powerful creatures are in fact so large that they can be used as mobile water bases. Ambitious tribes sometimes build bunkers right onto the backs of Elasmosaurus instead of building cargo ships.

Others
Despite its imposing size, Elasmosaurus still has natural predators. Well, a natural predator: the Megalodon. Apart from that monstrous creature, I myself have only ever seen two creatures bring down an Elasmosaurus: a Spinosaurus that found its way into the deeps (not common), and humans. Though I will admit, I have yet to fully explore the staggeringly deep underwater caverns surrounding the island.

-------------------------

Behaviour [to be updated once AI is enhanced]
As stated in the dossier, Elasmosaurus is meant to be a docile animal that leaves larger creatures alone, unless provoked.

However, Elasmosaurus currently attacks almost everything, especially humans, on sight. The AI will be enhanced in the coming weeks.

Resources From Harvesting
The enormous Elasmosaurus provides a huge amount of Raw Meat and Hide. A large number of Raw Prime Meat can also be obtained from their enormous bodies.

Taming Methods [to be updated once taming system is enhanced]
The only way to tame an Elasmosaurus at the moment would be to knock it unconscious. This could be done using the Crossbow and Tranquilliser Arrows.

Food [to be updated once taming system is enhanced]
Elasmosaurus is a carnivore, and eats meat of both normal and prime quality, whether they are raw, cooked, or prepared as jerky!

It would be more effective to feed it Raw Prime Meat or Kibbles during taming.

Utility
Elasmosaurus is able to harvest Raw Meat, Raw Prime Meat and Hide from dead bodies, though this may not be a very efficient method to collect these resources. It is also able to harvest Keratin and Chitin, if any bodies containing those resources happen to be in the water!

It is not able to obtain resources from bushes, trees or rocks, especially since it is a marine creature.

Judging by its bulk, it is no surprise that this beast has more health than most other creatures around. Though it may not be the best choice for naval combat, since its attack is not all that strong, it is a moderately quick way to transport troops and supplies by sea, its health helping it to survive in the deadly waters.

Its huge size and great strength allow it to carry very large amounts of cargo over water. At the same time, it can also transport humans and even other creatures.

With the Platform Saddle, Elasmosaurus can be converted into a mobile water base! Are you exploring the vast ocean, or heading to an island for an expedition? Elasmosaurus can be your mobile camp for regrouping and safety on your journey!

--------------------------

That concludes the second post of our Mobile Bases mini-series!

Patch v188 is coming out soon, so you know what that means!

Following that, Quetzalcoatlus!
